Gorge and Bridge at High Falls, Wilmington

Location
High Falls Gorge, 4761 NY-86, Wilmington, NY 12997
Date photographed

High Falls Gorge cuts a dramatic channel through the Adirondack landscape, where the river has carved deep into bedrock over millennia. The narrow passage funnels water into a rushing ribbon of white, while the surrounding forest transitions into autumn gold—birch and maple leaves catch the light above the shadowed stone walls. A wooden bridge anchors the right side of the gorge, offering visitors a way to cross and explore both sides of this geological scar. The contrast is striking: the soft, warm tones of turning leaves frame the cool gray stone and churning water below. This is a place where geology and season meet, where the river's patient work becomes visible in every layer of rock.
