Red and White Tower at Barnegat Light
- Location
- Barnegat Lighthouse, Broadway, Barnegat Light, NJ 08006
- Date photographed
Barnegat Lighthouse commands the northern tip of Long Beach Island, its red-and-white tower rising 217 feet above the Atlantic. The keeper's statue on the grounds—cast in bronze and facing the light—honors the men who tended this beacon for generations. Built in 1859, the lighthouse still operates today, its lantern room visible at the tower's peak. The sandy beach wraps around the point, and the ocean stretches wide and blue under a September sky. Wooden fencing lines the grounds, and a picnic table sits ready for visitors who come to stand in the shadow of this working sentinel.
