Two Seals Surface at North Light Beach
- Location
- North Light Beach, New Shoreham, RI 02807
- Date photographed
North Light Beach on Block Island offers quiet moments if you know how to wait. Two seals surfaced in the shallow water offshore, their dark heads breaking the calm surface with the unhurried ease of creatures entirely at home here. The water was still enough to hold their reflection, and they seemed unbothered by the presence of a camera—simply present, simply watching back. These encounters happen without warning on this stretch of Rhode Island coast. You can stand on the sand for hours and see nothing but waves, then suddenly they're there, curious and close enough to hold your gaze.
