Where Lake Willoughby Doubles Vermont's Fall Color
- Location
- Lake Willoughby, Vermont
- Date photographed
Along a sandy stretch of Lake Willoughby in Vermont, the water lies so calm that the far shoreline seems to continue downward. Maples and mixed hardwoods glow red, orange, and gold along the right bank, and each one reappears upside down on the surface. Dark evergreens break up the color and give the reflection its rhythm. Toward the far end of the lake, two steep ridges close in, their slopes rust-colored and touched by low cloud. An overcast sky softens everything, and the hidden sun leaves only a pale glow mirrored near the shore. Look down and the season is underfoot too: fallen leaves gather along the damp sand and rest beneath the clear shallows. The wide view came from a Canon 5DSR with the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM, a pairing that lets the foreground leaves, the mirrored trees, and the mountains share a single frame.
